Ingredients 

Mashed Potatoes

  • 6 medium potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup plant-based milk
  • 2 tablespoons vegan butter
  • to taste salt and pepper

Vegan Steak

  • 2 cups vital wheat gluten
  • ¼ cup nutritional yeast
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions 

  1. 1. Boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15 minutes.
  2. 2. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the minced garlic, plant-based milk, and vegan butter. Mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. 3. For the vegan steak, mix the vital wheat gluten and nutritional yeast in a bowl. In another bowl, mix the vegetable broth, soy sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. 4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients and knead for a few minutes until a dough forms. Shape into steaks.
  5. 5. Cook the steaks in a skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes on each side until browned.
