Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions 

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak for 15 minutes.
  2. In a pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the soaked rice, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Set aside.
  3. In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  4. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  5. Add the diced carrot, bell pepper, and green peas. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  6. Stir in the turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  7. Add the cooked rice to the pan and mix well with the vegetables. Cook for 5 more minutes.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
