Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 20 minutes.
Add garlic and sugar, cook for another 2 minutes.
Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
Add vegetable broth, bay leaf, and thyme. Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove bay leaf before serving.
