Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 8 cups vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions 

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 20 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and sugar, cook for another 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Add vegetable broth, bay leaf, and thyme. Bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove bay leaf before serving.
