Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup dry lentils rinsed and drained
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 bell pepper diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 burger buns toasted

Instructions 

  1. 1. Cook the lentils according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. 2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and bell pepper, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. 3. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. 4. Stir in the cooked lentils, tomato sauce, tomato paste, maple syrup, mustard, soy sauce, chili powder, paprika, and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, until the mixture has thickened.
  5. 5. Serve the lentil mixture on toasted burger buns.
